A Shitty Love Story (that's not really a love story at all, actually)

It had been a rough day.  Rougher than most.  I was just coming off of a 12-hour day at work and my mind was foggy, my body was numb.  But I didn't want to go home quite yet.  I needed a drink, something on the rocks, and my liquor cabinet was empty.  It was a Tuesday night so I wasn't looking to get drunk; I just needed to take the edge off.  There was a dive bar about half a mile away from work and I figured I could just slip in for a bump or two.  The parking lot was pretty empty, which was good.  I didn't need anyone recognizing me at the bar on a Tuesday night.

I walked up to the bar, slung my purse over the side of my chair and sat down.  I ordered a whiskey on the rocks; not what I typically drink but this wasn't a typical night.  And that's when I saw him sitting a few seats down from me.  I stared at him for longer than I should have and he finally turned around.

He looked me up and down and then held my stare for a few seconds longer.  I could feel my cheeks flush and I reached for a cigarette in my purse.
"Good evening", he said.
"Hello", I replied back.
The sound of his voice sent chills up my spine. My stomach did cartwheels and I felt like I was going to pass out at any moment. I straightened up in my chair and lit my cigarette.

Finally after what seemed like forever he said,

What an odd question to ask, I thought to myself.

"What do you mean? We've only just met", I replied.  What he said next shocked me.

Without a word I stood up and gathered my belongings.  Nobody talks to me like that.  Especially someone I have known for less than five whole minutes.  He could sense that I was put off by his forward comment.  I snuffed out the rest of my cigarette and turned to walk out.  From behind me I hear him say,

I couldn't help myself.  I spun around on my heel and said,

A slow smile crept across his face as he looked away.  He knew he had me.  I knew he had me.  It was all over.  What he said next only confirmed it.

"Love at first sight?  Yeah, I think it could happen", I whistered.
But he wasn't going to get me in bed as easily as he thought.  He was going to have to work for it.

He threw a fifty dollar bill on the bar and stood up.  He took my by the hand and said, "Come with me. Lets get outta here".  We stepped outside and it was raining.  We made a dash for his car and I slipped inside the the passenger door.  I took a deep breath and asked myself what the hell I was doing, going home with a stranger?  What if he robbed me? What if he killed me?  The ride to his place was short but it seemed like an eternity.  We pulled up outside a house that looked condemned from the outside.  I was shocked.  Surely a man of his stature and could afford a nicer place.
"Is this...where you live?" I asked, trying to hide the shock in my voice.
"Yeah.  I know it doesn't look like much on the outside but believe me it's a palace on the inside, sweetheart.   I have to blend in somehow".
He exited the car and walked around to open my door for me.  A true gentleman.  We went inside and I was at least expecting him to take my rain-soaked coat and give me a little tour of the place but what happened next was unexpected.

And then,

And afterwards I asked him,

His answer was simple.

But all of the sudden I got nervous.  I felt lost.  Something wasn't right, I wasn't expecting to feel so indifferent.  I rolled over and turned my back to him.

I started shaking and my mind was a jumbled mess.  I wanted to get away from him, I wanted to run as fast as I could.  Here is this beautiful stranger in front of me, professing his love for me, and he doesn't even know me.  How did I let this happen?
"I have to go.  I'm sorry.  I'm not the person you think I am", I blurted out.  I stood up to leave and he grabbed me by the arm and spun me around and said,

I didn't know what to say so I just said the first thing that came to mind.

"Don't try to find me. I can't see you ever again.  I'm sorry".  He just stood there, dumbfounded.  But he let me go and he didn't try to stop me.  I can only imagine his utter confusion.

I walked out the door back into the pouring rain.  I didn't know where I was so I just started walking.  Eventually I came to a main road and hailed a taxi.  I gave the driver the address to the dive bar where I had met the sexy stranger; I needed to compose myself.  I also needed to retrieve my vehicle.
I paid the driver and walked back into the bar and the bartender looked at me with raised eyebrows.  I suppose I looked like a drowned rat but I didn't care.  I needed one more drink before I could muster up the courage to go home.

About thirty minutes had passed and I was finishing the last of my drink and I paid my tab.  From the corner of my eye I saw a figure slowly spin around a few chairs down from me.  I glanced at the man in the chair and felt like I had been punched in the gut.  It was Jared.  My husband's best friend.  The look on his face said that he had seen everything.

THE FUCKING END!

I didn't know how to end this dumb story and I felt like it had dragged out long enough anyway and I'm over it.  I dunno, something different for a change.  Scarlett Johansson's GIF's are pretty limited so I didn't have much to work with.  But she's hot so I wanted to use her.  It was pretty cheesy I know, but oh well.  Cheese happens.  And I want to know WHY Scarlett and Ryan haven't made a movie or some babies together yet, good Lord!
